Why I love Science

Science is interesting
Everyone wants to understand the world around them.  Science is simply the best tool we have for doing so.  What's more, when we explore the world using the Scientific approach we are never disappointed, because everything is interesting if you look in enough detail.  Science is therefore a celebration of how lucky we are to live in a universe as fascinating as this one.

Science is important
No matter what you’re studying or to what level of detail, anything taking place in the Universe is based on what we hope are understandable laws.  Every event can be traced to a cause, which can be traced to an earlier cause and so on into the mouth of the big-bang 13.8 billion years ago.  And the same is true in the other direction.  Every event triggers another, which triggers another and so on into the dim darkness of our future.  From studying the world as it is now, Science lets us work out where everything has been and where everything is going.  Science is about discovering the past, predicting the future and putting the present in context.  There is very little I can think of which is imore important than that.

Science is reliable
Science isn’t just a collection of useful facts.  It gives us something more important than knowledge: a trustworthy way to arrive at it. The world is seldom the way it appears at first glance.  It’s complicated and humans are prone to mislead themselves.  Science is our best chance at cutting through misinformation and getting to the heart of how things truly are.  Science doesn’t just give us a picture of the world, it gives us a picture we can be confident of.

Science is for everyone
If there’s one thing I enjoy almost as much as studying Science it’s helping other people understand it.  No matter what your age, nationality, religion, sex or gender, you have a right to know how the world works.  So many people are put off the subject because it’s perceived as complicated; that it belongs to boffins sitting in labs scratching out brutal equations on squeaky blackboards.  The reality is that Science is for everyone.
Sure, there are some parts which take a lot of work, but I don’t think there is any such thing as an idea which is “too clever” for anyone.  Science can be explained to anyone who’s curious enough to ask about it.

These are the main reasons I have started this website.  Hopefully, as the years go by, I will persuade you that everything I have said above is true.  Wish me luck.
